I read this entry by ~cherryhobbit and pretty much cried an immediate foul.

Infuriating: Look, I am exteremly apposed to abortion, so when you have Plan Parenthood (who was just sued recently for medical reasons) and the president for Pro-Choice speaking about women's rights, I just want to punch something. Apparently a woman's right is to have her baby ripped from her womb. They say that a woman should have a choice to abortion and teens need "REAL" sex eduction. How about teaching our teens that SEX makes BABIES. There's an idea and that ABSTENCE is the TRUE way not to HAVE BABIES!


My response to this particular bit of insanity

Let me get this straight, okay...so if a woman is raped and becomes impregnated by the rapist, she doesn't have a choice to abort the remnants of this horrendous act? That it would somehow be better for the woman to be reminded of this psychologically damaging act day in and day out and that the child of this will have to spend their entire life knowing that they are the product of violence? Do you know how isolating and traumatic that is? That right there I find really very insulting. If you're opposed to abortion, that's fine, but you have absolutely no right to tell any other woman what she can and cannot do with her body. I'm not saying you go around blowing up abortion clinics or anything, but they exist so women have a way out. Abstinence only? Why don't you start telling children the earth is flat and that white people are the master race? Are you not also aware that abstinence only birth control was the only form of birth control taught in the fifties and sixties? You know what we got out of that? The baby boomers. Teenagers know that sex leads to babies, they are not that stupid. The reason they have sex is because they know adults don't want them to. They think they're invincible. And that's because their knowledge is woefully incomplete. The whole reason Planned Parenthood exists is not to abort babies but to give teenagers guidance witht their sexual decisions so that they never need to, but because of shitheels like George W., they have no money to provide the proper care, and yes, education to make the difference they really could. So because of that, people have little to no access to birth control or education and go out and make fifty million babies.

Suffice to say, what the sacred fuck is this shit? Are you serious? Are you seriously serious here? That comment is loaded with batshit insanity. Abortion is a choice. It's not like Planned Parenthood is going out and grabbing pregnant women off the street, fitting their feet into the stirrups and punching them in the fucking stomach. Women are choosing to terminate a mistake. Mistakes are meant to be fixed, not lived with. If I was having sex and the condom broke and I got pregnant, what should I do, keep the kid I clearly never wanted to make and blame it all on Trojan? I should wreck my life because of faulty latex? FOUL!
Don't get me wrong, I do not support abortion after a specific time period. I do not support abortion as a form of birth control. I support abortion because people have a physiological need to have sex. It's in our DNA. It's our instinct to copulate. Abstinence only is a trick that has never worked because people need to have sex. They do not however need to procreate. If you can't afford to have a kid, then why would you have them? Are you saying that a child living a life of squalor and poverty is an agreeable alternative to deleting it before it has any sense of consciousness or being? Because if you are, then I'll remember not to remove any of your tumors when you have cancer. Yes it is the same damned thing. A collection of cells that feeds off of the host and mulitplies uncontrollably but has no sense of self or pain or consciousness.

Ugh. Closed-minded people make me ill.
